Although it is recommended to keep your heat at 65 degrees to protect your pipes, we also know how high the BGE bills are these days. Simple measures like insulating basement pipes and leaving a slight trickle of water in the basement faucet on super cold days will help. In addition, turn off the water on outdoor faucets and bring your hoses in. Most importantly, know where your water shut-off valv

Housing Tip of the Week: Avoid Clogging Your Drain
Please make sure you do not pour fats, oils, and grease down your drain. These clog up your pipes and could cause major problems. What you can do is wait for the fats, oils, and grease to cool down, store it in a container or wipe it up with a paper towel and dispose of it in the trash. This will help keep your pipes, and the city’s pipes clean.

Housing Tip of the Week: Fire Prevention
It is fire season and we want you to be safe. Make sure to use only outdoor lights when putting up your holiday decorations outside. Never leave food on the stove unattended. Check your electrical system, clean the lint screen in your dryer, and avoid using space heaters. Check your smoke alarms and call 311 if you need the Fire Department to install another one. Please check in on your vulnerable neighbors as well!
