Housing Tip of the Week: Taking Precautions to Avoid a Fire
Please take precautions to prevent a fire in your home. Make sure to use the proper lights, avoid using candles, don’t leave the stove on, don’t plug in a lot of cords into one place, try to avoid space heaters, and if you have a live Christmas tree make sure to keep it watered and not near a heat source. We had another major fire this week in our district, that makes over 10 in a few weeks. See more tips from the Baltimore City Fire Department below.

My Statement on Kilmar's Release
Last Friday, Kilmar Abrego Garcia was required to check in with ICE after he was released from detention the previous night. That morning, he was able to leave his check-in at the Baltimore ICE facility and will be working with his lawyers on the next steps in the fight. I’m overjoyed that Kilmar Abrego Garcia will be able to spend time with his family, and I’m grateful to the residents who joined us that morning to show support for him and his family. Introducing Bill to Strengthen Rental Licensing and Accountability
The Rental Dwelling Safety and Enforcement Act strengthens landlord licensing, enforcement, and accountability. The new legislation builds on the work Council President Cohen did as a Councilman in the last term. Less than ½ of our rental properties in the city are properly licensed. Housing Tip of the Week: Call 311 for a Rental Unit Inspection
If you are a renter experiencing poor living conditions, please call 311 and ask for an inspection of your unit. The Baltimore City Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) inspection team will need to coordinate with you to access the unit, assess the conditions, and create possible citations. You can look up whether the property is properly licensed on the DHCD licensing portal here . It is a good idea to seek legal counsel from groups like Public Justice Cent
