Remarks on Bills 26-0144 and 26-0046R
Last night, the world watched as Benito sent a message loud and clear. We are all Americans. He expanded the US’s definition of American being limited to just our country, to all of North, South, and Latin America. This completely makes sense. I am honored to work with Councilman Parker and Councilman Gray on the Safe Spaces and Communities Act. Our bill codifies the existing executive orders and policies set out by our City and BPD related to immigration enforcement. This l

Housing Tip of the Week: Reporting Bad Conditions in Your Home or Unit
If you are a renter experiencing hazardous conditions in your home or unit, please contact your landlord. If your landlord is unresponsive, please contact 311 and create a service request. Reporting harmful conditions enables DHCHD to inspect the unit, and issue citations if repairs are not made. In addition, you can report your rental building or home to 311 if it is not properly licensed. It's vital for buildings to be licensed because it means that they have been inspected

Housing Tip of the Week: Homesharing
Rent is unaffordable for many right now. St. Ambrose Housing Aid Center has a unique affordable housing program called Homesharing. This helps our older adults stay in their homes while having someone around, and the renter can have an affordable place to live. St. Ambrose handles screening so that both parties are comfor

A facility that was never meant to be a detention center, but a holding room until each detainee could have a hearing, in accordance with their due process rights. Yes, every single person on US soil is afforded the right to due process. Based on what was said in the video, there was at least one person who was over 80 years old, and several who were there experiencing abhorrent conditions f

Housing Tip of the Week: Cold Weather Tips
It is really important to prevent your pipes from freezing and bursting. To do that, please leave a trickle of water flowing in your downstairs faucet. You can also wrap the pipes in your basement with towels. This is one of the many tips to consider during this winter weather. See the Department of Public Works' tips below.

The National Weather Service and our city's Office of Emergency Management predict 10-12 inches of snow Saturday night into Sunday morning, and then frigid temperatures and ice. It will be a very cold and snowy week. Please follow these steps to prepare, and please spread the word. We will send another update tomorrow before the storm, and please make sure to keep checking our social media and the Office of Emergency Management social media for updates. Pipes. Avoid burst pi

Housing Tip of the Week: HABC Voucher Waiting List is Open
The Housing Authority of Baltimore City (HABC) has opened its wait list for project-based housing choice vouchers. Being on the waiting list is the first step to make sure you have the opportunity to have rent subsidies in buildings that the Housing Authority has approved for vouchers. This is an opportunity for our very low income residents who need stable housing. The deadline is Friday, January 23rd, and you must apply online. Click here for details and the application.
