We Buy Houses Signs are Illegal

"We Buy Houses" signs are popping up again across the City. The most recent ones are pictured above. Calls and Google searches are leading to a property in District 14 which is owned by someone putting out these signs. Companies that put out these "We Buy Houses" signs are predatory. They offer someone likely in a desperate situation less than market value for their home. There was a movement in 2005 to get rid of these signs, and other signs on public right of way, that was lead by many residents across the district who then brought in Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke to sponsor the legislation.

With your help, we can get the company doing these illegal signs to remove them and be fined. Here’s what you can do.

  1. Call 311 and report the signs and location. You can either wait for Baltimore DHCD to inspect and remove the signs, OR

  2. Call 311, report the signs, take a photo of the signs, remove the sign and place all the information on location where you found it and take it to Baltimore DHCD - 417 E. Fayette Street. Here is the affidavit form to go with it, OR

  3. Remove the sign your self and put it in the trash, but there won't be any consequences for the perpetrator.

The fine is $500 per sign, and you can designate a community association to get 1/2 of the fine collected.
