A Major Win! Inclusionary Housing Package Passes!

Tonight, during our City Council meeting, we took the final vote on the Inclusionary Housing package. This package includes the Inclusionary Housing bill which lays out the requirements of the law, and the High-Performance Inclusionary Housing Tax Credit which helps to offset the cost of the inclusionary units.

I am so grateful to my colleagues, Council President Mosby and his office, Mayor Scott and his office, the Department of Finance, the Advocates, the Department of Legislative Reference, and the developers who worked hard for almost 2 years to make this important, historic, moment occur.

This is a major step in providing more affordable housing for residents in our city. This is also a start for dismantling the impacts of the racist housing policies that started here in our Chamber in 1913. New developments of 20 units or more will have to set aside up to 15% of their units for families making 60% of Area Median Income ($53,600 for a family of two, and $67,000 for a family of four) and 50% of AMI ($48,700 for a family of two, and $60,850 for a family of four).

I am very proud of this work and look forward to its implementation.
